Shivam Dube was India’s hero in the first T20I against Afghanistan. He took a wicket in his 2 overs and then scored an unbeaten 60 runs off 40 balls while chasing 159. The Men in Blue won the game by 6 wickets in 17.3 overs.
Former India player Aakash Chopra feels Shivam’s career was saved by the Indian Premier League. He was one of the reasons behind Chennai Super Kings’ title win in IPL 2023. The southpaw hit the purple patch under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
“IPL saved another career. Dube was lost somewhere and then his stint with CSK helped him. He was kept in the side for five-match T20I series against Australia but was not given a chance. Dube was dropped for the next series against South Africa. He surprisingly returned for the games against Afghanistan and showed his class in the first contest,” Aakash Chopra said on JioCinema.
In 16 matches, Dube scored 418 runs, with three fifties and a strike-rate of above 150 in IPL 2023.
