Former South African batter AB de Villiers has said that, according to him, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be given rest in some matches that are not as important in the upcoming Asia Cup. Speaking on his YouTube channel, de Villiers also praised the Indian selectors for effectively managing the workload of their senior players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGreat to see him in the squad, fit and ready to go. I don\u2019t think he will play all the games. I saw reports saying he will be earmarked for the games that matter and I love that about the selectors being proactive. That\u2019s how you should be managing your senior and most impactful players,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Bumrah was rested for two matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, it drew a lot of criticism. However, he still finished as the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the series with 14 wickets, including two fifers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former South African batter also explained the importance of giving senior players adequate rest, especially with the modern-day cricket calendar packed with continuous fixtures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not like they are picking and choosing. So much cricket these days that for your older guys, over age 30, their work has taken its toll over the years. Some selectors understand it and some don\u2019t.
