South Africa batter Sune Luus has said that her team will be aiming to make history by achieving their \u2018first goal\u2019 of reaching the final of this year\u2019s ICC Women\u2019s Cricket World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Africa, who have never advanced past the semi-final stage of the World Cup, reached the last four in the previous two editions of the tournament, in 2017 and 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve only made the semis, so our first goal is to reach the final. We\u2019ve never done that before, and we want to make history in that regard,\u201d Luus told media. \u201cI think you never want to look too far ahead. The goal is always to bring the trophy home, but there are a lot of steps and processes involved in getting there. So, I think we\u2019re just going to take every game as it comes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last year, South Africa reached the final of the T20 World Cup, where they lost to New Zealand. This year, they\u2019ll be looking to go one step further and clinch their maiden world title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 29-year-old Proteas all-rounder, who is heading into her third World Cup, said she is excited to be part of a tournament where every match will be a \u2018must-win\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think every game is a must-win and such an important match. So, we\u2019re not going to get too far ahead of ourselves, but it\u2019s always special to be part of a World Cup.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Laura Wolvaardt-led South Africa team will begin their World Cup campaign against England on 3 October in Guwahati, before moving to Indore to face New Zealand, and then taking on hosts India in Visakhapatnam.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
