India\u2019s stylish opener Smriti Mandhana has set a new record by becoming the highest run-scorer in a single year in women\u2019s ODIs. She achieved the feat playing against South Africa women in the ongoing ICC Women\u2019s World Cup on October 9. Mandhana scored 23 in the game, taking her annual tally to 982 runs from 17 matches at an average of 57.76, including four centuries and three half-centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The previous record was held by Australia\u2019s Belinda Clark. She scored 970 runs in 16 matches at an average of 80.83, including three hundreds and four half-centuries in 1997. South Africa\u2019s Laura Wolvaardt is third on the list, having scored 882 runs in 18 matches in the year 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mandhana is having a quiet World Cup campaign till now. She scored eight runs in the opening game against Sri Lanka. In the second match against Pakistan she scored 23. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coming back to the match, India set up a total of 251, thanks to Richa Ghosh\u2019s 94 runs off 77 balls, which included 11 fours and four sixes. Chloe Tryon took three wickets for South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Africa had a poor start, losing two wickets early. However, Nadine de Klerk scored an unbeaten 84 to guide her team to victory. Opener Wolvaardt also played a brilliant knock of 70. Kranti Gaud and Sneh Rana took two wickets each for India. With this loss, India stands at the 3rd spot in the points table with four points.
