Ever since Suryakumar took charge as T20I captain, the Indian team has remained unbeaten. While he boasts a stellar record as captain, his stocks as a batter have declined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKudos to him, as the team is doing very well under his captaincy and haven\u2019t lost a series,\u201d Chopra said on RevSportz\u2019s show Back Stage with Boria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suryakumar sacrificed his position to give Tilak Varma an opportunity at number three during the South Africa tour. The left-handed batter scored two hundreds, making a strong case for himself. The team management has kept the number-three position flexible, with several batters being tried there over the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn a personal level, he must be feeling the pressure because his primary role isn\u2019t that of a leader, but of a batter. I would really want him to bat at No. 3 in the first few games, at least against weaker opponents. Form is dependent on runs, which in turn depends on the time he gives himself at the crease. Suryakumar has been marginalised after sacrificing his spot at No. 3 to Tilak Varma. My suggestion would be for him to bat at No. 3 against New Zealand in all five matches,\u201d Chopra said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At number three, Suryakumar has scored 856 runs in 31 innings at an average of 32.92 and a strike rate of 159.40. One of his four hundreds has also come at that position.
